Veronica H. Heide receives Doctor of Audiology Degree (Au.D)

May 19, 2001 - Veronica H. Heide, Au.D. was the first audiologist in Wisconsin to receive the new Doctor of Audiology degree. Approximately 600 audiologists in the country will hold the new doctorate by the end of the year. Dr. Heide was one of the first six graduates of the School of Audiology at Pennsylvania College of Optometry. These six graduates were the first in the country to wear the spruce green hoods representing the Doctor of Audiology degree. Dr. Heide received her B.S. In 1974 from Marshall University in Huntington, WV and her M.S. in 1977 from UW-Madison. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Audiology and is a member of the American Academy of Audiologists and the Academy of Dispensing Audiologists. She received the first Wisconsin Audiologist of the year award in 2000 from the Wisconsin Speech-Language-Hearing Association. 

The ceremony was held at the Philadelphia’s Music Academy, home to the Philadelphia Orchestra. The commencement exercise was held on Saturday, May 19th at 4:00 p.m. Graduates and their families were honored at a breakfast hosted by Dean George Osborne, Ph.D., DDS, Dean of the PCO - School of Audiology Program. Dr. Osborne was presented a plaque recognizing his contributions to the Au.D. Program at PCO and establishing a Scholarship Fund in his name. PCO has a long tradition of leadership and excellence. Throughout its 80 year history the College has maintained and expanded its focus on academics, clinical training, and clinical practice.
